Ever wondered why there is a Chinese word “sheep” in the Traditional Chinese character “righteousness”? Some scholars believe this Chinese character came from Hebrew sacrificial rituals as sheep was being used in their sacrificial activities. If this is so, the act of the sacrificial ritual “I” sacrifice “Lamb” would make one righteous, hence the word “Righteousness” contains the word “Sheep” and “Me”.
However, this sacrificial ritual is no longer needed as Jesus became the LAMB sacrifice for us so that we might become the RIGHTEOUSNESS of God.
John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
2 Corinthians 5:21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Hebrews 10:3-4;8-10 But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins. It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them”—though they were offered in accordance with the law. Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.” He sets aside the first to establish the second. And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
